What to look for in a good Muhurat?

1.

Nakshatra: Rohini, Pushya, Hasta, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Bhadrapada are best for Griha Pravesh.

2.

Tithi: Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami and Dashami are generally auspicious for entering a new home.

3.

Month: Chaitra, Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Magha and Phalguna are considered favourable months.

4.

Avoid entering a new home during Adhik Maas (extra month), Pitru Paksha or during a family member's death anniversary period.

5.

Direction: Entering from the East or North direction is considered auspicious.

6.

Time: Morning muhurat (before noon) is generally preferred for Griha Pravesh.

Yes, Griha Pravesh can be performed for both owned and rented homes. The ceremony marks the family's first entry and is equally significant in both cases.

Akshaya Tritiya and Dussehra are universally auspicious days — no separate muhurat calculation is needed on these days.

Should the whole family be present?

Ideally, all family members should enter together during the muhurat. The woman of the house traditionally enters first carrying a pot of water or kalash.
